2023 Budget Information

The Rosendale Library is seeking a modest increase in tax funding for the library for the 2023 budget. This increase will not exceed the state tax cap. The 2023 proposed budget can be found on the library’s website here and be picked up at the library. The tax levy for 2022 was $329,000. The proposed tax levy for 2023 will be $340,000. This is a 3.34% increase, amounting to around $3 per year for a property assessed at $150,000.

The increase will cover rising costs of operating the library, specifically the cost of utilities and staffing the library. Overall, the library board has worked hard to hold down costs while providing excellent services. The budget continues to be focused on maintaining up-to-date-electronic equipment, a clean and welcoming facility, educational programs, and patron-driven collections of books and other media. The demand for e-content has risen since the beginning of the pandemic, and the library has increased spending on e-books and other streaming services. The library has been successful in applying for and receiving grants that have covered enhanced programs and improvements to the library’s infrastructure in 2022. The Friends of the Library have also worked hard to raise funds within the community to support the library. The total library budget for 2023 will be $358,300 which includes $10,000 for capital improvements which will be paid for from the library’s capital reserve fund.

There are three openings on the board. Carl Welden, Justin Peone, and Lauren Miller are each seeking full four-year terms ending December 31, 2026.
